Columbia Valley in Washington state is a rich source for outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon reds at moderate prices, thanks to the massive size of the region and to its diversity of terroirs. Our latest Tasting Highlights features eight newly released Cabernets from Washington's 2022 and 2021 vintages.

Mark Ryan McNeilly started making wine with just a few tons of grapes in 1999, working out of a friend's garage; soon, Mark Ryan winery was born. Largely a self-taught winemaker, McNeilly generally uses grapes from the Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills subappellations of Columbia Valley. His 2022 Dissident red blend uses grapes harvested from the Quintessence, Phinny Hill, Ciel du Cheval, Quinn, Discovery and Red Willow vineyards, and it's 85 percent Cabernet (with other Bordeaux varieties mixed in).

This lineup includes Bookwalter's Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Foreshadow 2022, a top scorer, which is vibrant with dark fruit and anise notes. Read on to get our scores and full expert tasting notes for this wonderful Washington Cabernet and seven others that scored 90 points or more on our 100-point scale.
